Wood Ducks are common summer residents and breeders, and utilize nest boxes in the park occasionally.  The begin to arrive in March, and are seen on most visits in April-September.  Sightings drop off in October, and we have only occasional sightings in November, December, January, with only one sighting for February.

Wood Ducks and Hooded Mergansers are both are known to "dump" eggs in other duck's nests.  At least twice we have seen Hooded Merganser chicks amongst clutches of Wood Duck ducklings.  On 2009-05-14, we observed a female Wood Duck with 8 Wood Duck babies and one Hooded Merganser chick.  On 2009-06-04, we saw an apparently unattended group of young ducklings comprising at least 8 Wood Duck chicks and 3 Hooded Merganser chicks.

Wood Ducks are most frequently in the slough and in the ponds at Marymoor West.
