Friends of Marymoor Park

July 28th, 2010 Meeting Summary

-- see also the June 23, 2010 meeting summary

  1. Introductions:

Norah Gaynor (King County Parks), Herb Bone (MAR/C, FOMP Board),  Jack MacKinnon (Marymoor Community Gardener's Association), Allison Brucker (Marymoor Community Gardener's Association), Michael Hobbs (Eastside Audubon, FOMP Secretary), Greg Helland (SODA, FOMP President)

2.     Park Tree Inventory and Plan  - Greg received a contract from DNR, and modified it to remove some insurance clauses that were incorrect (since FOMP is not a government agency).

After noting these changes, Greg moved to have the FOMP Board approve the contract.  Herb seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.  Greg will sign the contract and send it to the state.  Once FOMP receives the completed contract from DNR, FOMP can direct EarthCorps to begin the project.

Greg also received a Service Agreement from EarthCorps.  He has proposed some modest changes to it, but has not yet gotten those comments to EarthCorps for review.  Approval of that Agreement will be handled by the FOMP Board via email later this week.

Greg has requested that Ella come to the August FOMP meeting to provide status.  Hopefully, the project will have started by then.

3.   CIP / Project Updates:

a.      BirdLoop:  Concrete footings for the bicycle racks have been installed.  Eastside Audubon also would like to replace the Barn Owl nest box, that is currently hung from a large fir between the mansion and the stage.  The three young from this year all fell out of the box and perished.  It is hoped that a new box with better placement will have better results.

b.      Maintenance and Art Barn Renovation – exterior painting underway.

c.   NE Marymoor Way Paving Work - Work order in for centerline painting.  Hopefully will be completed this summer.

d.   Community Garden - New water system completed.

e.      Garden Loosestrife Control Project – EarthCorps is mapping the site along the lake edge to track the infestation, so that effectiveness of treatment can be tracked.  Once the initial site work is completed, spraying will commence.

f.       Tennis Court Repairs – Complete.

g.   Pet Garden - Gardeners Association will plant shrubs to block openings in the fall

h.      Sammamish  Rowing Association boat house – Permit issued.  Work to started this week.  Access to the old boathouse is now via a trail mowed into the meadow to the north of the usual access road.

i.    East Lake Sammamish Trail - Master Plan available, in all of its hundreds of pages.

j.    Stage Seating Area - Evaluation of asphalt path vs. full hard surface.  New chair racks with larger tires are making a big difference in chair set-up.  Norah has also been acquiring chairs with larger legs, less likely to fall into holes.  Anti-mole treatment has cut down on holes.

4.   Events:

  • U.S.G.A. Senior Open Parking - Now through Sunday, August 1.  Expect heavy traffic Thursday-Sunday.  60 busses will be in use to transport attendees.

  • Cirque du Soleil - Last show was July 11.  Attendance appeared to be down a bit from 2008, probably due to the down economy.  Norah expects that they will return sometime.

  • Sammamish Kennel Club dates - REVISED - August 26-29.  Previous calendars were incorrect.  Slavic Festival moved to Concert Venue.

5.       Other:

 Next Meeting:  Wednesday August 25, 2010, 7:00 – 9:00pm. Marymoor Art Barn.
