October 28, 2025 Meeting Summary
-- see also the September 24, 2025 meeting summary
- Welcome and Introductions: Justin Camputaro, Marymoor Park Administrator; Greg Helland, FOMP President, online; Michael Hobbs, Marymoor Bird Survey, FOMP Secretary; Glenn Eades, Eastside Audubon Bird Loop, neighbor
- CIP/Project/Facility Updates:
a. Eastside Audubon Birdloop: The focus for their November work party will be plantings around the Viewing Mound slope, trying to replace weeds with more natural plants.
b. Marymoor Community Gardens: They will soon have a new shed. In further numbers for their donations to the food bank in 2025, this year MCGA gave 494 lbs of bush and pole beans, and 535 lbs of tomatoes!
c. R/C Field (MAR/C): Their season finale went well, with great weather
d. Marymoor Velodrome Association: Their 2025 season is over. Next year, they expect that the Junior Nationals will be held at Marymoor again. Glenn mentioned that the new trail from Sound Transit into Marymoor gives a great view of the velodrome, which should boost interest in the track. Parks has suggested that MVA post information signs on the fence between the trail and the velodrome. It's a great place for publicity and outreach.
e: SODA - Off-leash Dog Area:
- The third and final hogs fuel spreading event was last weekend, with 85-100 volunteers participating.
- Michael brought up his continuing concerns that, while SODA works very hard to maintain the off-leash dog area, some of their work does not do as much as Michael would like to keep some critical habitat areas protected. He would like to have Parks do some kind of assessment and proved guidance and recommendations to SODA. Michael specifically asked for more of the riparian strip to be fenced to keep dogs out, and he also questioned the expanding use of gravel for trails.
f. Concessions Updates: The Dog Hair Dont Car coffee project has been cancelled due to market conditions.
h. Maintenance Items:
- New signs are coming, including You Are Here maps on trails.
- Tennis courts with be getting a new light switch. This will allow user-control over the lights, giving a 30-minute illumination for a push. This will not be available 24-hrs; there will be off-hours.
- The ParkMobile app will be enabled to allow payment of $1 parking fee, using your phone. This will be a year-long trial to see if this is well adopted by park users.
i: Capital Site Planning: There will be a stop-gap plan for pedestrian safety in crossing Marymoor Way. Pedestrian visits and presence are expected to increase with the expanding use of Sound Transit light rail trains.
j: Cricket/Multipurpose Facility Proposal: Consideration of any a facility is on indefinite pause until after the new King County Executive election in November.
- Visitor Tracking Data: Justin shared a little over a year's worth of traffic counter data from Marymoor Way and the Marymoor Connector Trail, as well as initial numbers from the North Station Trail. These imply a growing usage of the park, and an annual visitor count of significantly over 3 million people! Current data is a bit inconclusive, but it doesn't immediately seem that cut-through traffic is a having a tremendously large impact at this time.
